Introducing a new events format

18th May 2022

The Urban Health Council launched in January 2021 and has since run various roundtables, panel events, and workshops. Going forward we’ve decided to streamline these activities into two groups: Advocacy and Place.

ADVOCACY

refers to those who are addressing major structural issues that will benefit from high quality usable research. This includes policy influencers and campaigners who are supported by additional insights and relationships to further their work.

PLACE

refers to those (mostly) creating solutions within places and cities. This includes built environment practitioners and spatially minded organisations and campaigners who are concerned with how to apply new insights to specific problems relating to place and health.

HOW THE FLOW OF INFORMATION AND ENGAGEMENT WORKS

The research reports produced stand by themselves but we sit it imperative to our job to support its application by running workshops on the research within these groups.

People are naturally free to attend any activity they would like, however we are going to be running the interactive virtual sessions in line with the ways in which the two audiences work.

To attend all you need to do is be registered as a member and you will be automatically added the mailing lists.

FIRST SESSIONS

ADVOCACY

The first session will be on 15th June for the Advocacy group. The event will be on an ‘An Environmental Data & Health Justice Lexicon’, a new piece of work within the Planetary Dysregulation theme. The project leaders will break down what the lexicon is, how it can be used, and why it supports existing organisations advocating for impact and justice. The end of the session will have a Q&A and shout-outs for those on the call wanting to share upcoming work.

PLACE

The first Place session will take place on 27th July where will be scenario modelling a day-in-the-life for 3 different demographics in 2035. Following an introduction three groups will go into virtual rooms and collectively ideate alongside their respective demographic.

An event will take place every 6 weeks with the themes alternating with the second Advocacy session focusing on the work from the Gendered Health theme on 7th September.

WHAT ELSE?

Every quarter we’ll be hosting an Introductory session to the Urban Health Council. This is designed to explain a little more about what happens, past work, upcoming work and ways to get involved. This first session will take place on 1st July and repeat quarterly on the first of the month (subject to weekday availability).
